Leonard Bernard, 81 of Pictou Landing First Nations, passed away September 16, 2014 at his home.
Born in Pictou Landing First Nations, he was a son of the late Chief William “Billy” and Annie (Syliboy) Bernard.
He is survived by his children, Floyd Bernard, Canada; Lorraine (Ralph) Francis, Pictou Landing First Nations; Russell Bernard, Dartmouth; Cheryl (Frank) Denny, Pictou Landing First Nations; Ryan (Cheryl) Bernard, Pictou Landing First Nations; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother Colin Bernard, Pictou Landing First Nations; sisters: Catherine “Kay” Helstowski, Milwaukee, USA; Mary “Gladys” Bernard, Pictou Landing First Nations; Bernadette Bernard, Pictou Landing First Nations; Mary (Alan) Francis, Pictou Landing First Nations; a sister-in-law Dorothy Bernard, Pictou Landing First Nations; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Virginia Marie (Toney) Bernard; brothers: Bernie Bernard, Frank Bernard and Patrick in infancy, sisters Yvonne and Mary Agnes in infancy.
His remains will rest at his late residence at 6481 Reservation Road, Pictou Landing First Nations after 4 p.m. Thursday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing First Nations with Father Gary MacPherson presiding.
Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
