WORTHEN, BERTON "BERT" WILLIAM - The passing of Bert W. Worthen of Fredericton, NB occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at the age of 67. Born in New Glasgow, NS, he was the son of the late Bert Worthen and the late Phyllis (Sweetapple) Sanderson. Bert was employed at Devon Lumber for over 25 years, as well as at Spruce Grove Ltd. (Experimental Farm), the Forestry Complex and most recently and last as a Crossing Guard at Park Street School. Bert touched the lives of many little people going to school on his route each day. Bert is survived his loving wife of 31 years Nancy (MacTavish) Worthen; daughter Ashley Worthen (Levi); son Steve Worthen; a granddaughter Lily Sheppard “Bert’s pride and joy”; children from his previous marriage a son Brent Howse (Lisa); daughter Amanda Dow (Steve); grandchildren Brendon, MacKenzie, Brycen and Isabella Dow; step mom Karen Worthen; sisters Carol Ann Johnson, Wanda Hachey (Gerry), Debbie Clements (George), Bette Ann Scanlan (Murray), Lillian Worthen (Tommy), Tammy MacKinnon (Jim), Gail Farrell (Mike), Georgina Ross (Andrew), Jenny McArthur (Nick); brothers Bobby Worthen, Dennis Worthen (Bridget), Mike Worthen, Sandy Sanderson (Keri), Jimmy Worthen; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; as well as his mother- and father-in-law Boyd and Helen MacTavish; brother-in-law Richard MacTavish (Debbie); sister-in-law Judy MacTavish. Predeceased by his step father Robert Sanderson and a brother David Worthen.
Visitation will be held at the Gibson Memorial United Church on Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 7 to 9 PM. A funeral service will be held at Gibson Memorial United Church on Friday, September 19, 2014, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Cora Krommenhoek officiating. Interment will be held in the Sunny Bank Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Worthen, Timmy Williams, Jimmy Hughes, Melvin Veno, Bobby Worthen, Tim Martin, Levi Sheppard, Mark, Jeff and Brent MacTavish. For those who wish, donations in memory of Bert may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Gibson Memorial United Church.
