Noreen Roy

STELLARTON – Noreen Roy of Stellarton passed away on September 17, 2014, at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, NS.
Noreen is survived by her husband John of Stellarton, son John (Jane) of Bedford; grandchildren Craig of Halifax and Jennifer of Bedford. She is also survived by daughter Kathryn (Joe) Breen of Stellarton and grandchildren Dr. Ellen Breen of Baltimore, Maryland and Joanna Breen (Jarrett Comeau) of New Glasgow; daughter Barbara (Peter) Breen of Stellarton and granddaughter Laura of Stellarton.
Born in New Glasgow, Noreen was a daughter of the late George and Annie Chaulk of Park Street, Westville. Noreen is also survived by a sister, Beverly Gammon of Scotsburn, brothers George and Allan Chaulk of Sarnia, Ontario and a sister Deborah Baljeu, also of Sarnia.
Noreen loved boasting of her grandchildren’s accomplishments big or small, annual winter visits to Fort Lauderdale with her siblings, coffee with her many friends, a hearty laugh, a weather forecast, parades, and all things tartan. She accomplished her life goals – to be a loving wife and mother; and she accomplished so much more.
For some years Noreen was Director of the Happy Times Pre School Program conducted at the Sharon St. John United Church Hall in Stellarton.
Noreen was a Charter Member and Drum Major of the Fraser Homes Ladies Pipe Band of Pictou County. Over the years the band performed locally and in various parts of Canada and abroad, including the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo (12 times), the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California and Scottish Festivals in Georgia, Virginia, New Hampshire and Bermuda. On several occasions Noreen performed as Drum Major with the Canadian Massed Pipes and Drums in Scotland. On two occasions, she was presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the Braemar Highland Games in Scotland. She also participated in the Edinburgh, Scotland Tattoo.
Loving, kind, gentle, and easygoing, Noreen accepted everyone for who they were and always gave far more than she ever asked for. She was the loving anchor of the Roy family and the support center of the Chaulks. Noreen will be missed every day.
The family will receive visitors to honour and celebrate Noreen’s life from 2:30 until 4:30, on Monday, September, 22, 2014 at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, King Street, New Glasgow.
