It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother, Karen O'Brien (MacKinnon), on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at her home in Glace Bay.
Born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Karen was the daughter of the late Everett ‘Teed’ and Freda (Hennessey) MacKinnon.
Karen was a proud member of, The Coast Radio Station, 89.7 community, where she has worked for the last several years. An avid reader, she was known to spend hours at the local bookstore. She loved spending her spare time watching cooking shows and any reality TV. Karen's most cherished moments were spent with her grandsons, who she adored.
Karen is survived by her three daughters, Shannon, Halifax, Colleen, Glace Bay, and Paula, Glace Bay; grandsons, Ethan, Jensen, Thomas and Erik; sister, Kathleen (Bill), Oshawa, Ont.; brothers, Roly, Georgetown, Ont., Lorne, Charlottetown, P.E.I., and Kevin (Michael), Australia; her husband's large family; several nieces and nephews and special family friends.
Besides her parents, Karen was predeceased by the love of her life, Thomas (Tom) O’Brien. Reunited in eternity to dance once again.
In accordance with Karen's wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment in St. John’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
As an expression of sympathy for Karen donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
