THORBURN – Marjorie Eileen Robertson, 79, of Thorburn, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014 with her loving family by her side.
Born in Moose River, she was the daughter of the late James Russell and Margaret Ruth (MacLaren) Betts.
Marjorie was in the first graduating class from East Pictou Rural High School and was a graduate of the Victoria General School of Nursing class of 57B. She worked at the Aberdeen Hospital and in later years was secretary in her husband’s business, Pictou County Home Appliance Service Ltd. She enjoyed their cottage at Egerton, making special meals for her family, working in her flowers beds, crocheting, crafts and volunteering. She was a member of Esther Mission Circle and the Dorcas Rebekah Lodge.
She is survived by sons: David (Donna), Thorburn; Douglas (Liya), New Glasgow; Dean (Jennifer), Halifax; daughter Marla Dawn (Shane) Cameron, Egerton; grandchildren: Nicholas, Brandon, Timothy, Sean, Conrad, Victoria, Benjamin, Samuel, Abigail, Mya; great-grandchild, Locklyn; sisters-in-law: Eleanor Betts, Sydney; Marilyn Anderson, Thorburn and Sharon LaVatte, Ottawa.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Donald Edgar Robertson; brother Alvin Kenneth Betts; brother-in-law Frederick Robertson.
The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, September 26th at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, 256 King St., New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 27th at 11 a.m. from the Union Presbyterian Church,Thorburn, with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Family burial will be in the Thorburn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Diabetic Association, the Alzheimers Association or to the Union Presbyterian Church.
