It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Pearl Elizabeth Buffett, 97, of Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, at the manor.
Born in Westville, N.S., she was a daughter of the late Edward D. and Flora Ann (MacDonald) McKenzie.
Pearl was a member of the former St. Agnes parish, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard, New Waterford. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend who was always smiling with a positive, 'sunny' disposition. In earlier years, Pearl worked at the Munitions Plant in Montreal. While there, she developed a love for fashion and was always up on the latest trends. To many, she was considered a 'fashionista'. Pearl also enjoyed figure skating and walking. She was a caring and generous person who will be missed by all.
Surviving are daughters, Doris (Joseph) McDonald, June Dejardins, both of Dartmouth, Debbie (Mike) Cullen, Port Hawkesbury; sister, Edna Atkins, Barrie, Ont.; three grandchildren, Bethany, Andrew and James; great-granddaughter, Ainsley; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Pearl was predeceased by her husband James Buffett, brothers John, Bill, Rannie, Bernie, sisters Evelyn, Florence, Esther, and Evelyn in infancy.
Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 26, from 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Saturday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford.
