Gladys Anderson

Passed on: September 17th, 2014

Gladys Cora Anderson (nee: Thompson) of Cabri, SK passed away peacefully at the Prairie Health Care Center in Cabri on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the age of 79. She was lovingly surrounded by family. Gladys was born in Wolseley, SK on September 7, 1935. She attended school in Regina, SK before the family moved to the E.B. Gas Farm, where she then attended Sandfordene School. On July 23, 1955 she married the love of her life "Jimmy" Anderson. Jim and Gladys celebrated 59 years of married life before her passing. They were blessed with five children: Gayle, Gary, Randy, Joanne, and Patti. Gladys was a loyal loving wife and a wonderful mom who took great joy in providing a caring home life. Gladys loved the family farm and the home they built from the ground up. She reveled in all the yard work and gardening as she loved to be outside. Over the years Gladys loved to sew, knit, bake, play softball, curl, camp, and entertain. She was always up for a game of cards and loved her monthly Whist Club. Gladys was a member of the Sanfordene Ladies Club, a 4H Leader, taught explorers and softball to many. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and her and Jim enjoyed the Cabri Square Dance Club. She was a very talented artist and over the years painted many of the murals for Hazlet Figure Skating carnivals as well as pictures for her family. Gladys enjoyed watching the Riders play and the Blue Jays and was quite enthusiastic in her cheering. Family and many friends enjoyed Gladys's baking; doughnuts, cinnamon buns, butter tarts, buns, and pies. We all knew the messier the kitchen the better the baking. Her love of cooking started at a young age when she waitressed at Molly's Café in Cabri and made milkshakes so thick the straw stood up. Gladys worked as a cook at the Cabri Hotel and then ran the restaurant in Hazlet with Jim's help for many years. While her children were at home, she drove school bus, making the ride lively by singing songs. Huntington's Disease was simply a hurdle to be faced for Gladys, and with her failing abilities Jim took on many of the household chores while lovingly caring for her. Even when her memory of family declined, it was Jim's voice and touch that cause her face to light up. Five years ago Gladys was moved to the Swift Current Care Center and then to the Cabri Prairie Health Care Center. We cannot begin to thank the loving and passionate care extended to Gladys by all who worked there. Gladys was predeceased by her parents Russell and Ena Thompson; parents-in-law Stewart and Florence Anderson; brothers Alan Thompson and Roy (Hilma) Thompson; sisters Marjorie (Lloyd) Leader, Doreen Thompson, and Hazel (Sam) Ivanitz; and sister-in-law Sharon Thompson. She is survived by her husband Jim Anderson; children Gayle (Ed) Olsgard, Gary (Peggy) Anderson, Randy (Hazel) Anderson, Joanne (Miles) Anderson, and Patti (Tom) Shannon; grandchildren, Chris (Michelle) Olsgard, Jenelle (Bill) Bennington, Travis (Jennie) Anderson, Kenton (Janelle) Anderson, Nick (Cassie) Anderson, Jeremy Anderson, Chelsea (Byron) Weedon, Alyson Anderson, Kalese Shannon, and Wesley Shannon; brother Gerry Thompson; sister Viola (Len) Schaan; sister-in-law Mary Bingham; and 17 and two thirds great grandchildren all whom gave her immeasurable joy. Gladys will be dearly missed by her entire family, but our memories of her will live forever. In Gladys's memory, donations may be made to the Huntington Society of Canada or to the Prairie Health Care Center (Cabri) Ladies Auxiliary. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
