SMITH, Phillip Leigh, 70, of North East Point, Shelburne County, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Yarmouth on September 17, 1944, he was a son of the late Arthur and Annie (Penney) Smith. Phillip was a well-known electrician in the area. With his outgoing personality, he made many friends wherever he went. He served his community very well as a member of the Barrington Area Lions Club for 40 years. A curling enthusiast all of his adult life, he was an active member of the Barrington Curling Club. He always showed a special interest in automobiles and loved to travel. He is survived by companion, Barbara Blanchard; son, Blair, Halifax; daughter, Heidi (Warren) Chambers, Barrie, Ontario; stepsons, Andy (Michelle) Nickerson, Barrington, Corey (Suzanne) Nickerson, Villagedale; father-in-law, Blanchard Adams, Yarmouth; brother, Gary (Anne) Smith, Centreville; half-sisters, Maureen Palmer, Halifax, Nancy (Charles) Nickerson, Woods Harbour; half-brother, Asa (Anne) McGray, Halifax; grandchildren, Priscilla (James) Smith, Dylan and Kyle Doma; step-grandchildren, Ashley, Logan and Madison Nickerson; great-grandson, Jaden. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Diane (Adams) Smith; half-sister, Florence Crouse. Visitation 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, September 30 at the H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 1 at the H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, Rev. Pat Cook officiating. Interment will be in the Old Kirk Cemetery, North East Point. Memorial donations may be made to the Barrington Area Lions Club or the Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund.
