James Albert "Jim" Welton - 76, of South Alton, Kings County, passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 27, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. Born in South Alton on June 2, 1938, he was the elder son of the late James Curtis (1963) and Violet Victoria Welton (1997). He was employed in the wholesale grocery and hardware industry in Ontario and in the valley. He took early retirement to care for his ailing mother. Jim was a thoughtful and generous brother, uncle and friend. He will be missed by many. Jim enjoyed walking, reading, watching TV sports, and keeping up on the news. He enjoyed his hummingbirds each year and liked a good game of cards. Surviving are sister, Doreen Pye and brother, Lorimer (Phyllis), all of South Alton; five nieces and nephews, Mary, Shelly, Curtis, Jennifer and Peter; as well as eight great nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Curtis and Violet Welton and his brother-in-law, William "Bill" Pye. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend June Keddy officiating. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Following the burial, a reception was held in the White Family Funeral Home. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses or the charity of your choice. Special thank you to Dr. Lori Burgess and her palliative care team as well as the VON services for their compassionate, efficient and helpful assistance.
