Barry Victor Roy Mingo

Mingo, Barry Victor Roy – 45, Greenfield, passed away October 1st, 2014 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Born in Truro, he was the son of Ronald and Linda Mingo. He was a graduate of Cobequid Educational Centre and studied 3D animation at MacKenzie College. Barry was a well-known radio broadcaster in Truro, working at CKCL and CKTO in the 1990s, and later on Big Dog and Cat Country. A passionate believer in every person’s right to feel safe, secure and accepted, Barry served as Executive Director of the Cyber Internet Safety Society, moonlighting as the mad scientist Mr. McGillicuddy to spread Cyber’s anti-bullying message. In his professional life as a freelance web designer, producer and editor, he created promotional materials for clients all over North America. Barry will be remembered as a kindhearted family man and loyal friend who was generous with his many talents. He loved nothing more than a good road trip or jam session with Carla and the kids. He was an avid swim Dad who could be found cheering at meets and volunteering his DJ skills at numerous fundraising events. Barry was a Past President and longstanding Board member of the Truro Centurions Swim Club, who will greatly miss his wisdom, common sense and humour. Barry is survived by Carla, his wife of eighteen years; daughters Emilyanne and Katie; son Benjamin; parents Ronald and Linda Mingo; sister Patti (Darren) Moore; 6 nieces and nephews and a large extended family. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 5 at 2 pm in Immanuel Baptist Church, 295 Young Street, Truro, with Rev. Cory Somers officiating. Reception to follow the service. Private family interment in Greenfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in trust for the Mingo children.
