It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Reginald Price on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
David was born in Dominion, the son of the late John and Pearl (Hawley) Price.
David graduated from MacDonald High in Dominion, followed by Nova Scotia Teachers College in Truro. Continuing with his education, David attended St. FX Jr. College and St. FX University in Antigonish where he received his B.Ed. followed by his M.Ed. in administration from Dalhousie University.
David’s teaching career saw him share his love of teaching and belief in lifelong learning for many fulfilling years. He taught at MacDonald High School, served as principal at MacDonald Elementary School in Dominion, and later as vice-principal of Glace Bay High School.
David served on the board of Children’s Aid Society of Cape Breton, was chairman of the Board of Directors of the Glace Bay General Hospital, and the Glace Bay Hospital Foundation.
David was a long serving member of Knox United Church session holding several offices throughout the years.
He was a long-standing member of Truine Lodge #75 in Dominion, and IOOF Aberdeen Lodge #68 in Glace Bay, holding offices of Past Noble Grand and Past District Deputy.
Survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Judy (Burden); daughters, Alana (Brad) Chaulk, Calgary, Alyson (Bruce) Colford, Westmount; his pride and joy, cherished grandson Logan Colford; sisters, Jeanette (Russ Woodley), Ontario, June (late Bernie) MacPherson, Hamilton, Amelia (Jack) Whalley, Digby, Brenda (Doug) Sprachlin, Dominion; brothers, Robert (Marilyn), Halifax and Doug (Claire), Dominion. Predeceased by brother Jackie.
David was a kind, caring and compassionate man whose heart was full of generosity and touched all who met him.
David’s love of family was utmost in his life and afforded him his greatest joys.
‘Certain is that there is no kind of affection so purely angelic as of a father to a daughter – there is something which there are no words to express. I love my father as the stars – he is a bright shining example and a happy twinkling in my heart.’
Special thanks are extended to Dr. David Ley, Dr. Kevin McNeil, Dr. Clay Butler, Dr. Robello, Dr. Laith Shimon, ER, ICU, and Telemetry staff of Glace Bay Health Care Complex, staff of EHS, medical and nursing staff of Intensive Care Unit at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, as well as QEII Health Science Centre, Halifax.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay with visitation Saturday, Oct. 4, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to be conducted at Knox United Church, Sunday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. Interment will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations to Knox United Church, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Cape Breton Cancer Centre or charity of choice.
