Harry Daley

DALEY, HARRY ALLEN - It is with immense sadness that the family of Harry Allen Daley announce his passing, at the age of 76, from Bobby’s Hospice. After a lengthy, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Harry, beloved husband of Lorraine (Fairweather) for 40 years, passed on October 2nd, 2014. Harry was born on August 18, 1938 to parents Mary Agnes (Steeves) and Harry Albert Daly in Saint John, NB. He is survived by his daughter Hope Crawford; his two grandchildren Kayla and Jacob Purdy; his great-grandson Lucas Purdy (Kayla); brother Maurice; sisters: Clare (Cooper), Agnes (Daly) and Bernice (Mollins); several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Harry, Fred and Arthur; sisters Gertrude (Burnside) and Marion (Griffin). Harry loved working for the City of Saint John as a heavy equipment operator for over 30 years, taking an early retirement on April 15th, 1993. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leaf fan and his greatest joy of all was his grandchildren and new great grandson. “Papa” enjoyed taking his grandchildren to the nature park and depending on the time of year, walking or sliding down the hills. He would do anything for his daughter and enjoyed working around her home doing repairs and yard work, taking care of her car or shoveling the snow. There was always a project and he was always being creative in how to get things done. He was kind to everyone and loved by so many. Harry’s family would like to thank the many people that have helped us all to stay strong during his very difficult battle: Dr Steve Corscadden, a friend, caregiver and extended family, no words will ever be enough; the whole Corscadden family, especially Stewart, you were a son to him and he loved you dearly, but you know that; Dr Andreani; Dr Lightfoot; Dr Burnell and the entire oncology staff; the staff of the Saint John Extra-Mural program, especially Myline; the amazing nurses and hospital staff during his various stays on 5AS, 4BS, 4CS; Dr Hannigan, Sara and Dr Alex Mazurek from the palliative care team; the amazing pharmacy staff at the SJRH for their continued support, friendship, care and prayers; Sister Bonnie and Pastor Burt of Full Gospel Assembly and finally Bobby’s Hospice for welcoming him and making his transition peacefully, gracefully, with dignity and respect.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). As per Harry’s request there will be no visitation. The funeral service will be held at Full Gospel Assembly on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 1pm. Memorial donations in memory of Harry can be made to Bobby’s Hospice or the Canadian Cancer Society. Interment will take place at a later date at Second Chipman United Baptist Cemetery.
