John William Strum

Strum, John William, 72, of Strathcona (East River Hebert) and formerly of Truro, passed away on September 27th, 2014 peacefully at home. Born in Millbrook, he was the first of four children born to Laura Annie Stevens. John was adopted when he was three weeks old by Marie (Minnie) Strum and Moyle Armenious (Dick) Strum of Hilden. As a “jack-of-all-trades”, John had a great many occupations throughout his life. One notable job being at Dawbarn Canada, the rope company in Truro where he met his wife, Shirley. John and Shirley made many friends in Moncton, Saint John, Truro, Hilden and in the Miramichi. John was an avid fisherman and keen photographer who left behind countless images and was a member of the Image Makers Photography Club in Truro. He would tell you a fib with a straight face, yet was the most honest person one could hope to meet. He is survived by his son, Troy; brother, Donald; sisters, Lorraine, Louise, and Hazel; granddaughter, Jessie. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 6th at 2 p.m. in St. John’s Anglican Church, 25 Church St. Truro with Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating. Interment will take place on Tuesday, October 7th at 11am at the Terrace Hill Cemetery, Truro. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Colchester Community Workshops where John instructed upholstery, another of his many occupations.
