Ernest Chatterton

CHATTERTON, ERNEST CLIFFORD - April 21, 1930 – October 2, 2014 - Ernest C. Chatterton of Upper Queensbury, NB passed away on October 2, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Ernest was born at Campbellton, NB in 1930, a son of the late James and Ebba (Larsen) Chatterton. Having grown up in Campbellton, NB, Ernie continued his post-secondary education at UNB, graduating as an Electrical Engineer in 1953. He met Ann during those UNB years and married on July 18th 1953, moving to Montreal shortly thereafter as he began his professional career with Montreal Engineering. He returned with his family a short time later to spend the balance of his working career in pulp and paper with a number of years in Dalhousie, Temiscaming, Quebec and returning to Nackawic, NB in 1970 as his true desire allowed his three children to grow up closer to grandparents and extended family. Early retirement in 1989 afforded him much more time to continue his helping ways with family, friends, neighbours, church and community as everyone turned to Ernie, as our Project Engineer and Mr. Fix It. Retirement also allowed him and Ann to expand on their enjoyment with the motorhome, travelling across Canada and the US, meeting new friends far and wide, and settling in for a few warm months for a number of years in Florida with his mobile carpenter/electrical shop on wheels (motorhome). He was a loving active “Papa” with all his grandchildren and you could witness his delight as they grew and matured. Of late, his joy has multiplied with the arrival of his little great-grandchildren, five boys and two girls, as could be seen as he continuously smiled in their presence and snapped photos of them at every opportunity. He was continually producing a new woodworking item each season. Over the last year, he was so very proud as he was able to present each of his little great-grandchildren with one of his handcrafted wooden trucks, each one individually crafted and painted with each child in mind. Each of us has been so blessed to have had such a wonderful person as a Husband, Dad, Papa, Great-Papa and friend. He is survived by his wife, Ann S. (Briggs) Chatterton; his children, Judy Ingraham (Fraser), Dumfries, NB, James Chatterton (Kathryn), Moncton, NB and William Chatterton (Arnesta), Rossville, NB; Charlene Chatterton, Upper Queensbury, NB; nine grandchildren, Tanya Hayward (Bliss), Trevor Ingraham (Emily), Andrew Chatterton (Angie), Jason Chatterton, Adam Chatterton (Lisa), Nathan Chatterton, Alex Chatterton, Kristen Chatterton (Dwayne) and Thomas Chatterton; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathleen Kaine (Beverly), Campbellton, NB and Florence Way, Southampton, NS; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Friday, October 17, 2014 from 12:30 until 3 p.m. when a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. Brad Little officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations can be made to River Valley Christian Academy (RVCA) or the Barony Cemetery. www.flewellingswan.com
