George Sedgewick Lockett

George Lockett, 88, of Rothesay, surrounded by his family, was called home to his Saviour and Lord on Saturday, Oct. 4, from Bobby’s Hospice. George, beloved husband of Bea (Dacre) for 65 years, was born to parents Richard and Margery (Bamford) Lockett in Saint John, New Brunswick.
He is survived by his son, Brian (Sandra) Lockett, Saint John and daughters, Janice Lockett, Rothesay and Joyce Lockett Millard, Charlottetown. George dearly loved his grandchildren Kendra (Joe) Goguen, Dartmouth; Kim (Chris) Lee, Charlottetown; Kristen (Karl) Augustin, Quispamsis; Erin (Sherwin) Blaize, Toronto; Alison (Drew) Rickard, Summerside. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren.
A veteran of the Second World War, George finished his career of 43 years at (McAvity Crane) Clow Canada as Production Manager. He was a member of his beloved St. John’s (Stone) Church for 68 years and served in many capacities as cub leader, Sunday School superintendent and Church Warden. He especially enjoyed serving as a lay reader and taking services in surrounding churches when there was a need. George was also a keen supporter of missions, especially Overseas Missionary Fellowship (OMF).
He is also survived by sisters-in-law Hattie Lockett, Sussex and Gertrude Petite, Halifax and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and two brothers Albert and Richard Lockett.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, 634-7424. Visitation is on Monday, October 6 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 11 a.m. at St. John’s (Stone) Church, 87 Carleton Street, Saint John. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. John’s (Stone) Church Building Fund, OMF, or charity of the donor’s choice.
Special thanks to the staff of Bobby’s Hospice where George spent his final few days. Their warm and caring support during these final days were a great comfort to our family.
