The death of Maria 'Mizie' Isabel Shaw, wife of the late Ernest Mason Shaw occurred on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014 at York Care Centre, Fredericton, N.B.
Born on June 5, 1915 in Little Bras d'Or, Victoria County, Cape Breton. She was the eldest daughter of the late Murdock and Catherine MacFarlane. Mizie lived at Ross Ferry most of her life. She was a member of Drummond Memorial United Church and also a life member of the UCW. Following the death of her husband in 1988, she moved to Wolfville with family and then to Fredericton, N.B. in 1999. Mizie was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who enjoyed knitting, quilting, cooking and gardening.
Mizie is survived by one daughter, Annie (Gilbert) Todd of Fredericton; two granddaughters, Shawna Keane and Laurel Colpitts of Fredericton; also four great-granddaughters, Kailey and Allison Keane and Olivia and Madison Colpitts of Fredericton; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, George; grandson, Scott Todd; sisters, Annie MacFarlane, Della MacKenzie, Martha MacGregor and Arabel MacKenzie.
There will be no visitation by her request. A memorial service will be held from Drummond Memorial United Church, Ross Ferry, Cape Breton Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Sylvia Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will take place in Drummond Cemetery following the service.
For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Drummond Memorial United Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
