It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Cecilia Murphy of Whitney Pier on Oct. 6, 2014.
She was a resident of MacGillivray Guest Home for a number of years.
Cecilia was born in Whitney Pier and the daughter of the late Garrett and Mary Ann (Kehoe) Murphy.
She was a life-long faithful member of Holy Redeemer parish in Whitney Pier.
She will be long remembered for her love of children. They were her constant companions whenever she walked through the Pier. Home visitations were frequent.
Cecilia and her sister Helen developed meningitis at an early age. Helen died and Cecilia remained handicapped from the disease.
She attended Holy Redeemer Girls School and spent two enjoyable years in Mabou attending St. Joseph Convent Boarding School. She was a lady loved and admired by everyone she met.
Cecilia is survived by her sister, Sister Mary Murphy (formerly of St. Theresa Parish, Sydney) now residing at Parkland, C.B. and brother-in-law Ron Ruckle. Surviving are nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Predeceased by her sisters, Eileen (Murphy) Tatlock, Rita (Murphy) Ruckle of Manitoba, and Helen in infancy, she was also predeceased by her brother-in-law Derrick Tatlock and nephew Gary Tatlock.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Mass in celebration of her life will take place at Holy Redeemer Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating.
Grateful thanks to all the staff of MacGillivray Guest Home for their compassion and loving kindness to our dear Cecilia. Special thanks to Fr. Michael Rankin who through his faithful Chaplaincy was a source of peace and consolation to her.
