It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, Emerson Heffernan on Oct. 7, 2014 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late John and Christina (MacKenzie) Heffernan.
Emerson was in the Korean War. He also served time in Germany. In Emerson’s younger years he was a boxer. He had spent a lot of time working as a coal miner and a heavy equipment operator. Emerson had a special love for horses, they were his life. Family also meant a lot, his kids and grandkids were everything to him, and his grandchildren loved him dearly. His granddaughter Deborah is following in his footsteps with her love and work with horses.
Emerson is survived by his ex-wife, Veronica Gaetan; son, John (Rose), Inverness; daughters, Christina (Jerome) Burke and Shelly (Kevin) Bailey, both of New Waterford; sister, Hellen Rose, Ontario. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, Micky Joe, Gabriel, Katie Ann, Emberly, Gail. Nicole, David, Emerson, Deborah, David, Shawn, Kyle, Preston and seven great-grandchildren, Dylan, Makayla, Mya, Keira, Jace, Rylon, Gavin, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Emerson; daughter, Debbie; brother, Miles; sister, Evangeline; son-in-law, John Boutilier; brothers-in-law, John Rose and Sheldon Hatt.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a chapel service on Oct. 10, 2014 at 3 p.m. in the McLellan Brothers Chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Burial will be held in Mount Carmel Cemetery followed by a reception in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Smith Street. All are welcome.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Emerson’s memory can be made a charity of one’s choice.
