LINSLEY
Herbert Gordon Linsley of Moose Jaw, passed away on October 8, 2014, after an inspiring battle with cancer, he was born in Moose Jaw on August 1, 1947. He married Vivian Barry in 1968. Herb began his working career at the family business, Linsley IGA, as a butcher. He then spent the next 35 years in various aspects of sales. He and Vivian also spent 10 years operating the Sheffield Gourmet at the mall. Most recently he worked part time driving school bus, which he greatly enjoyed. Herb was the youngest elected City Alderman in Moose Jaw at age 21. He spent 20 years as a School Board Trustee for the Moose Jaw Public School division, for which he received the Governor General’s Award for Service. Herb also served on many volunteer boards and associations throughout his lifetime and up until recently on the Canada Day Committee. His fondest memories are of times spent with his family and friends, travelling, camping, attending Rider games and his grandchildren’s activities. Recently he and Vivian enjoyed trips to Hawaii, California, Edmonton, Las Vegas and the East Coast. He is predeceased by his parents Harry and Mary Linsley; brother Walt Linsley; mother and father-in-law John and Anastacia Barry; and sister-in-law Ev Linsley. Herb is survived by his wife Vivian; sons, Michael (Chris) – Blaine Lake, and their daughter Christian Linsley (Cam Clark) – Saskatoon; Kenneth (Delee) and their sons: Spencer and Hayden Linsley – Swift Current; daughter Lanita Linsley-Munn (Scott Spilchen) and her children Mason, Maddox, and Avery Munn - Regina; brothers Bill Linsley – Saskatoon, Dave Linsley – Westlock, AB; sister Marj Steele – Westlock, AB; brothers-in-law Milton (Shirley) Barry, Gary (Lori) Barry, Alan (Wanda) Barry; sisters-in-law Betty (Terry) Payne, Val (Roy) Cardwell, and Sandra (Lorne) Barry; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and special friends and neighbors. The Celebration of Herb’s life will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday October 11, 2014 at 1:30 pm. The Reverend Deacon Arleen Champion will officiate, assisted by The Reverend Canon Milton Barry and The Reverend Marj Steele. Visitation for family and friends Friday evening 7 – 9 pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, Palliative Care, 455 Fairford St.E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1H3, or the Children’s Wish Foundation, Box 309, Saskatoon, S7K 3L3.
