Berggren: Philip (Phil) Gordon Berggren, age 38 of Swift Current, Sk. passed away October 2, 2014 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, AB. The Prayer Service was held Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 7:00 pm. from Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 10:30 am from Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, Swift Current, Sk. with Father Richard Jasiak MSF officiating. The organist was Yolande Gorrill. Readers were Christopher Schaefer and Allyson Schaefer. The pallbearers were his pool buddies, George Driscoll, John Eldred, Bernie Gerlach, Mike Peters, Layne Feil and Rod Olson. The Interment Service took place at Verwood Cemetery in the Assinibioia District. Phil is survived by the love of his life Alysia, his parents Donna and Daryl Berggren, brothers Mark (Ashley) Berggren, John (Tricia Lawrie) Berggren, David (Samantha) King; sister Tara (Danny) Remenda; grandmother Elaine Berggren Oncescu; nephews Josh Giesbrecht and Nick Remenda; aunts June Schaefer, Myrna MacKay, Kathy (Joe) Blayone; uncles Randy (Peggy) Berggren, Dave (Diane) Berggren, and Ross Berggren; great uncles Herb Larson and Floyd (Teenie) Henry; great aunts Gwen Henry and Vi Watkinson and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grand parents Gordon and Ivy MacKay; paternal grand father Eric Berggren; uncles Malcolm MacKay and Richard Schaefer and cousin Justin Fitzsimmons. Phil was born on July 7, 1976 in Regina, Sk. He attended school in Assiniboia, Swift Current and SIAST Palliser Campus in Moose Jaw. While attending SIAST, Phil was diagnosed with Wegeners Granulomatosis (WG). Since that time, many hours of his days were spent on the WG Forum, conversing, advising and receiving advice from other WG Patients. They called him "Dr. Phil" or "Batman". His other great love was pool with his friends at Lucky Charlie's. He was an excellent pool player. Phil loved his pool buddies, his contact with other WG patients, he love for family and he loved to hike and quad with his brothers at the farm. In 2007, he journeyed to Portugal for the 90th anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady at Fatima. Phil had a special devotion to Our Lady. He died secure in the love and forgiveness of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. In Phil's memory, memorial donation may be made to the Charity of the Donor's Choice.
