It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving father on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at his home in Whitney Pier, surrounded by loved ones.
Son of the late Mary Margaret Howley and Howard Neville, he was the last surviving member of his family being predeceased by brothers, Michael, Orville, Frank and Howard and by sisters, Myrtle, Irma and Genievieve.
Bill retired early from Sydney Steel to enjoy a long retirement pursuing his outdoor passion for fishing and hunting, as well as enjoying his almost daily treks around “Neville Park.”
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him as a kind, gentle and compassionate man.
Bill is survived by his best friend and wife of 57 years, Sophie (Jockemack); daughters, Josephine (Bob Crinion), Halifax, Noreen, Halifax and Mary (Terry Keough), Sydney; sons, Billy (Cheryl), Sydney and Robert (Tara Lee), Sydney; grandchildren, Jordan, Rebecca, Andrew, Shaun, Nolan and Nia.
Thank you, dad, for your wisdom, wit and endless sense of humour. Thank you for making us proud and grateful to call you “Dad.”
In honouring Bill’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church on Monday, Oct.13 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
