Russell Fulton

PLYMOUTH – Russell Ernest Fulton, 88, Plymouth, passed away Friday, October 10, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born December 29, 1925 in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Fred Nelson and Christine Margaret (Cameron) Fulton. He was raised and attended school in Merigomish. In earlier years he was employed with Trenton Steel Works. Following, he was employed with his father, Fred, doing electrical, plumbing and carpentry for several years. In 1944 he became employed with the Nova Scotia Power Commission where his first job was reading meters, he progressed to District Supervisor in Trenton and Stellarton, retiring after 28 years of service. He formed R. Fulton Electric Ltd., Plymouth, Pictou County in 1973 and operated the company until 1994. Russell was a member Moore Lodge No. 17, I.O.O.F, Thorburn and life member of the former Norton Lodge No. 6, I.O.O.F., New Glasgow. He was a member of Sharon St. John United Church, Stellarton. Russell was well known for his quick wit and humorous “stories”. He enjoyed carpentry/woodworking at his shops in Plymouth, Merigomish and Largo, Fla., where he constructed three boats and numerous bird houses. Russell’s speciality was building lighthouses, of which he completed 1156, which may be seen throughout Pictou County, Canada and the United States. He thoroughly enjoyed 23 winters at his home in Yankee Park, Largo, Fla. In the summers he could be found at his cottage in Merigomish, where he enjoyed boating and gardening.
Surviving are his wife, Betty (Mason); son, Colin, Stellarton; sister, Dorothy Margeson, Cochrane, Alta.; brother, Albert (Joan), Merigomish; sister-in-law, Bobbi Smith, Charlottetown, P.E.I.; brothers-in-law, Ian Loomer, Penticton, B.C.; Lloyd Smith, Riverton; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Katherine (Smith); sister, Phyllis Loomer; brother, Lawson; sister-in-law, Marion MacDonald Fulton, May Forbes, Shirley Jackson; brothers-in-law, Doug Margeson, Don Forbes, Gordon Jackson and Jim Fisher Smith.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Moore Lodge I.O.O.F., No. 17, Thorburn will hold their service at 5:45 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sharon St. John United Church, Stellarton with Anne Hoganson and Rev. Dr. Jim Shaffner officiating. Private interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Merigomish.
