It is with broken hearts that we, Wayne’s family, announce the passing of our wonderful father, brother, uncle and best friend, Wayne Sampson on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Charles and May Belle (MacKillop) Sampson. Wayne grew up on Oxford Street.
Wayne will be missed by all who loved him, especially the love of his life, and soul mate, Michele Rogez; his daughter, whom he adored, the light of his life, Erin Sampson; two loving stepchildren, Susan Seward “Susie Q” (Greg Pynn), Adam Seward “the baby boy”; sister, Caroline Martell; brothers, Melvyn (Geraldine) Sampson, Charles (Irene) Sampson, and his nieces and nephews, Glenn, Cheryl, Cathy, Wayne, Randy and his great helper, Tim, who was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever Wayne needed him.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Wally Martell.
Wayne was known to everyone as “Sambo”. Wayne was the “go to style consultant” when he worked on Charlotte Street at Chernins and Oak Hall. Many of his friends and customers who wanted the latest trends in menswear came to see Wayne. Later Wayne became the friendly neighborhood milkman working with Scotsburn Dairy until he retired.
Wayne loved to collect treasures, including antiques and was quite talented at refinishing furniture. He had a passion for Western memorabilia, record albums and so enjoyed Saturday morning yard sales and visits to Value Village in search of more treasure.
The “Minstrel of Hanartwood”, the “Mayor of Coxheath” Wayne had so many good close friends. He loved fishing, especially with his daughter Erin, and “Daddio” always let her catch the most. SYiTM. Wayne thrived in the outdoors, being in nature with the tranquility of the lakes and especially watching sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico. Wayne loved of all types of music.
Lots of memories were made singing karaoke with his good friend Ron. Wayne had a wonderful sense of humour, he loved to laugh and have fun. Wayne always loved his Wednesday coffee with Mel and his lunch dates with Caroline. He cherished the times in Indian Rocks Beach with Michele sitting on the beach, reading books under an umbrella with a Corona nearby.
Wayne’s kindness and gentle manner will never be forgotten by all whose lives he’s touched.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Monday, Oct. 13, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. A memorial service will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014 at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
