William Saulnier

SAULNIER, WILLIAM - The family of William J. Saulnier of Moncton are saddened to announce his passing on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at 94 years of age. Born on August 31 1920 in Saint-Antoine N.B. he was the son of Vital and Elia (LeBlanc) Saulnier. He was a WW2 veteran and served in the Canadian Army with the 4th medium artillery regiment in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany from 1941 to 1946 and was awarded several medals for his service and the liberation of Dieppe, France. He is honored in the Saint Antoine War Vets Memorial and was a long standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 6. Upon his return he became a licensed Bricklayer, Stone Mason and a carpenter and worked in several cities across the Atlantic Provinces. In his retirement he had several hobbies, in later years he enjoyed playing darts and cards with his brothers and family. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Annette (LeBlanc); two Sons Paul (Terry) of Moncton and Bernie (Dorine) of Saint-John. A Brother Victor (Albina) of Scoudouc; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a special sister in-law Eva (Daigle) Saulnier. He was predeceased by a son Normand; brothers Edgar, Aurèle and sisters Marie, Leona and a half-sister Lina.
The funeral service will be celebrated at the Frenette Funeral Centre, 88 Church St, Moncton, on Thursday, October 16 at 10:30 am. A reception will follow immediately after the service at the centre. There will be no visiting hours prior to service. In memory of William, a contribution to the Veteran Health Centre would be appreciated by the family. The entire family would like to thank Dr. Dupuis for his care over the years and Nurse Maria in 4C of Dr. Georges-L Dumont University Hospital Center in his final days and the excellent care he received from everyone during his stay at the DVA War Veterans Home. www.frenettefuneralhome.com
