Gilbert Boone Gilbert Boone

Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: October 11th, 2014

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of a truly amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Gilbert Boone. Da passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, Gilbert was the son of the late Stan and Mary Margaret (MacPhee) Boone.
A truly humble and generous man, he was like a father to many. The words, ‘It can’t be done’, were not in his vocabulary. Da never complained and helped countless people, some he barely knew. A plumber by trade, he could repair anything put in front of him. No job was too big, he lived by the motto, 'If it was worth doing, it was worth doing it right.' Da was previously employed with Atomic Energy Canada, Glace Bay & Port Hawkesbury, McPhee Plumbing & Heating and he also worked at the Fortress of Louisbourg Restoration Program through Northern Affairs. He was a member of Local 682 Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Union.
He was an active member of St. Anne’s parish and served as a minister of hospitality. A tireless worker, he was his happiest at work or in the presence of family. Da was one in a million, it’s hard to envision him not repairing something or helping someone out. Da also loved to drive, he and Ma could often be seen out for a ‘little spin’. He also enjoyed dancing and going walking, especially around Renwick Brook. In his younger years Da was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces which he was deeply proud of, he also was a member of John Bernard Croak, Branch No. 3 Royal Canadian Legion, Glace Bay.
Gilbert is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Anne (Fraser) Boone; sons, Bernard (Geanne), Gil (Peggy); daughter, Allyson (Ken); special son, Robbie McKinnon; grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Cady, Beverly Anne, Mitchell, Roger, Koby, Nate, Ethan; great-grandson, Owen; sister, Pauline; brother, Francis as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Da was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Adie, sister, Rose Marie (MacPhee), son, Blair and a daughter, Mary in infancy.
In honouring his wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Gilbert’s cousin, Fr. Leo Boone is Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church followed by a reception in the church foyer. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations in Gilbert’s memory may be made to the CBRH Foundation (ICU).
