It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the loss of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend to many on Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, Phemie was the daughter of the late James and Sadie (MacDougall) Petrie.
She was a former member of St. Leo’s Church, Stirling.
Phemie enjoyed playing darts and cards with her many friends. She was a very caring woman who loved her family dearly. In her younger years she was always keeping house and helping out looking after children. In her late 60s after her children and grandchildren were grown, she took the job as kinder garden teacher at the Town House, Glace Bay.
Phemie will be sadly missed by her son, Ronnie (Geralda), Calgary; grandchildren, Margaret (Glen), Middle Sackville, Allan (Tammy), Glace Bay, Lindsay, Glace Bay, Rosie (Adam), Yarmouth, Darryl, Glace Bay, Amanda, Glace Bay, Erica, Calgary, Ronnie Jr., Calgary, Carolyn, Glace Bay and Mary Beth, Glace Bay. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Aislin, Keegan, Hailee, Shelby, Joshua, Gracie, Brianna, Sloane, Xavier, Olivia, Ava; sisters, Lexi (Jimmy) McIntyre, Dominion, Mona (Jackie) Burgess, Birch Grove; brothers, Allie, Grand Cache and Ronald, New Brunswick. Phemie will be sadly missed by many other family members and friends she loved dearly.
Phemie was predeceased by her loving husband, Gerald Bryden, son, Gerald T. Bryden and her daughter, Linda Slade.
Phemie’s memories will be cherished by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Leo Boone is Thursday, 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the church foyer. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to palliative care in memory of Phemie. The family would like to thank the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, VON, and Homecare for their compassion and care they gave to mom.
