It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Katherine Marie 'Kathy' Gillis, 56, of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, formerly of 9th Street, New Waterford on Oct. 12, 2014 at Harbourstone.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Hugh and Gatha (Fortune) Gillis.
Kathy was a member of the Parish Church of St. Leonard and a life-time member of the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, Ladies Auxiliary. Kathy was known to be a 'social butterfly' who enjoyed playing bingo, cards and listening to music, her favourite song being, '4 in the Morning'. Kathy also loved wearing her 'bling' and could light up a room with her smile. She was a positive person who would never complain. Kathy, a beautiful person inside and out, would put herself last and others first. She will be missed by all.
Surviving are sisters, Sandi (Peter), Membertou, Helen (Paul) Graham, New Waterford; niece Bernadine, Edmonton; nephew Paul Hugh, Halifax; grandniece Mikelle, Halifax; aunt Marie McMullin, New Waterford.
Besides her parents, Kathy was predeceased by one brother, Joseph, in infancy and one sister, Judy in 2006.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford.
