Margaret Antoinette Westin (nee Webster), wife of the late Malcolm (Father Alban) Westin, passed away peacefully at the Turnbull Nursing Home, Saint John, N.B., on Thursday evening, October 9, 2014.
Born on October 4, 1924, in Kingston, Jamaica, she was the eldest child of Carl Rosebery Webster (Sr.) and Ruby Eliza Webster (nee Wood) and older sister to the late Carl Rosebery (Jr.) and Anna Katherine (Issa). She received her education from Wycombe Abbey, Buckinghamshire, England, St. Andrew High School, Kingston, and Charlotte Mason Teachers College, England.
Margaret married Malcolm Westin at St. Andrew’s Parish Church, Half-Way-Tree, Jamaica, on November 15, 1952. They moved to Canada in 1955. They served in parishes in Ormstown and Terrebonne, QC, Stony Hill, JA, McAdam, N.B., Amherst, N.S., and Charlottetown, P.E.I. In 1995 Margaret and Malcolm were received into the Antiochian Orthodox Church.
Margaret had resided in Saint John since June 2013. Margaret was a faithful Christian and loving wife to Malcolm, dedicated mother of three boys: Donald (Kirsten), Peter (Loretta), and John Paul (Carolyn), 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and a loving aunt to eight nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered for her extraordinary memory for people and their birthdays, as a great correspondent, a woman with a playful sense of humour, an unquenchable sweet tooth, and a gracious hostess to all of her many visitors, family and friends over the years. She was predeceased by her husband Malcolm (2007), brother Carl (2011) and sister Anna K (2014).
The Westin Family would like to thank the many people who have offered their love, prayers and condolences, and particularly thank the dedicated administrators and staff of the Turnbull Home for their exceptional care over the past six months.
