Crosby, Doris Gertrude-89, Lockeport, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 9th. 1024, Born January 27, 1925 in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert Tabor Hankey and Nola Pearl (Maquire) Hankey. Raised in Lower Sackville and Steep Creek, Guysborough County, she taught school for several years during the war on a permissive licence, then attended Nova Scotia Normal College from 1946- 1947, where the met her future husband. Gerald B. Crosby and Doris Hankey married on July 1, 1948 and settled in Lockeport where they built a house together and raised 11 children. Doris taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was a staunch supporter of Holy Cross Anglican Church. She bowled for many years in the Seniors’ League and enjoyed watching the Blue Jays and Leafs. She is survived by children, Gail (John) Sexsmith, Hilden; Donna, Lockeport; Wynn Thibodeau ( Gerald Gallant), Kentville; Donald, East Jordan; Elsie (Dennis) MacDonald, Lockeport; Allan (Brenda Burgess), Sandford, Yarmouth Co; Chris (Tami) , Jordan Bay; Russell, East Jordan; Joan (David) Bangay, Brentwood, Colchester Co; Bill (Suzanne), Lockeport; Laura (Tim) Hicks, Thousand Oaks, California; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceasd by husband, Gerald in 2012; brother and sister, Lydia and Billy in childhood; half-siblings, Seymour Hankey, May Dauphinee, Eleanor Mac Bain, Allan and John (Jack) Hankey. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Lockeport. No visitation by request. A memorial service took place on Tuesday, October 14 at 2 P.M. in Holy Cross Anglican Church, Lockeport with Rev. Rob Richmond officiating. Interment in Lockeport Cemetery .Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Cross Anglican Church, Lockeport; Lockeport Medical First Responders or charity of choice.
