Erwin Terrance McMaster

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Erwin Terrance McMaster, formerly of Williston House, Sydney, at the age of 93. He died peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Oct.12, 2014, with his family by his side.
Erwin was born in New Waterford on Sept. 24, 1921 to Duncan and Mary (Currie) MacMaster. He was the second oldest of 14 siblings. He was married to Bernie Sampson for 37 years and enjoyed a life filled with laughter and fun until her sudden death in 1979. He married Theresa Bisson in 1982 and had 27 happy years living in Glace Bay at McKay’s Corner.
Erwin served in the Canadian Air Forces, stationed out of Halifax and Ottawa, and was employed at Sydney Steel and at an auto body shop before working at Sid’s Used Furniture. Erwin purchased the Charlotte Street business in 1969 and thereafter became known as 'Sid' to many. After retiring from Sid's in 1985, he worked at Cape Breton Mazda. He loved travelling to Florida and visiting family across North America. He enjoyed walking, boating and spending time at 'the trailer' on the Bras d'or Lakes.
Erwin will be remembered for his kind, caring demeanor, and how he would quietly help out his family and friends in times of need. He always loved large and lived his life with honour, always treating others as he wanted to be treated. Erwin’s biggest joy was spending time with his son, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He was actively involved in their lives and has left a lasting legacy on each of them
Erwin is survived by his son, Sheldon McMaster, Sydney; his grandchildren, Kirt McMaster, California, Aileen (Keith) Taylor, Calgary and Natalie (Dave Oickle) McMaster, Liverpool; his great-grandchildren, Darren, Luke, Keegan, Dean and Norah; his sisters, Carolee Yorke and Agatha Piper and his brother, Gordon.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Bernadine Sampson; his second wife, Theresa Bisson and his siblings, Katherine MacIsaac, Elmer, Carl, Russell, Laura MacLean, Alonzo, Petch, Duncan, Jean Cooke and Edith Ann Calder.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 at St. Mary’s Church, East Bay. A reception will immediately follow at the Saint Mary’s Church Hall.
