It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anna Theresa (Gallivan) Gillis on Monday, Oct. 13, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Anna was born on Feb. 15, 1928 to the late Elizabeth ‘Bessie’ (Keefe) and Thomas Gallivan. A lifelong resident of Sydney, she had previously resided on Highland Street and recently on 27 Xavier Dr.
Anna enjoyed her summers in Ironville and Beaver Cove for over 40 years. She had a love for playing cards. She was a member of St. Joseph parish, Sydney and enjoyed being a C.W.L. member.
Anna is survived by her loving family; Michael (Ann Frances), Sydney River and their sons, Shaun, Halifax and Ryan, Petawawa, Ont.; Elizabeth (Geoff) Hodge and sons, Gregory (Karla) and Glen, all of Dartmouth and Ronald (Bernadette) and their daughter, Chelsea, all of Mississauga, Ont. Also left to mourn her loss, are brothers, John (Andrea), Nictaux, N.S.; Tom (Michelle), Lac Le Hache, B.C. and sister, Jane (John) Coady, Sydney River. Anna also had one great-grandchild, Penelope, Dartmouth. There are many nieces and nephews who survive her and her lifelong friend, Delores (MacEachern) Bruleigh, Sydney.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, John Norman 'Shorty' in 2009; a son, Thomas Joseph, at birth; also brothers, Thomas, James and sister, Marilyn and stepmother, Frances (MacDougall) Gallivan.
Visitation will take place at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel today (Wednesday) from 2-4 & 7 -9 p.m. with a funeral mass celebrated at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Thursday. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or charity of choice.
The family would like to thank Dr. G. Myatt, Dr. E. MacMullin, Dr. K. Orrell and the staff of 3A and especially the caring staff of the An Cala Unit at the C.B.R.H.
