It is with deep sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of Raymond Fraser 'Yogi' Kearney, 74, on Oct. 13, 2014 at Celtic Court Nursing Home, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Clarence and Cornelia (MacLellan) Kearney.
Raymond was with the Canadian Armed Forces for 23 years, serving as a para-trooper and retiring as Master Sergeant. He completed two tours in Cypress and spent four years in Germany.
He enjoyed fly fishing and horse racing. Two of his horses, 'She's Gone Country' and 'Mrs. Mary K' were a great passtime for him. Raymond also enjoyed watching hockey and was an avid Maple Leafs fan. He received the greatest enjoyment from family, especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn (Pheifer); sons, Raymond (Heather), Halifax and Michael, Whitehorse, Yukon; grandchildren, Emma, Matthew, Shara and Joshua; many neices and nephews. Raymond was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, William, Archie, Allie, Clarence 'Tantz' and Dale; sisters, Lillian, Margaret, Charmaine and Mary.
Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Saturday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Cremation will follow with burial in St. Agnes Cemetery at a later date. A luncheon will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Plummer Ave. immediately following the funeral mass.
