It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Muriel Mildred Jackson, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Twillingate, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of Joseph and Lydia (Gillard) Burton.
As a teenager, she worked at Notre Dame Bay Memorial Hospital in Twillingate before moving to North Sydney in 1948 where she worked in housekeeping at the Hamilton Hospital and later at the Cape Breton County Hospital. She was a devout Christian and attended the Pentecostal churches of Twillingate, North Sydney and Sydney.
She is survived by Cecil Jackson, her loving husband of nearly 65 years; her eight children, Victor (Karen) Jackson, North Sydney, Harris (Linda) Jackson, PEI, Elizabeth Jackson (Tom Brown), North Sydney, Edward (Sandra) Jackson, Sydney Mines; Daphne (Steven) Beeler, Halifax, Robert (Debra) Jackson, North Sydney, Judy Jackson, London, Ont., and John Jackson, New Glasgow; her 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are her brother Harris Burton, Durrell, N.L., and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Ralph, Raymond and Joseph and sisters, Violet, Lillian, Gladys, Louise and two infant great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service for Muriel will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, with Rev. Ron Coole officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
The family wishes to thank all the nurses and care givers on 4 West, Northside General Hospital, and Dr. Marek Knott and other doctors who cared for Muriel during her recent hospitalization.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or the Sydney Pentecostal Church.
