With deep sadness we announce Caroline 'Carrie' Gillard, age 87, a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home, passed away quietly on Thursday evening Oct. 16, 2014 amid visits by all of her sons and daughters, and her grandchildren, Christopher and Jolene.
Born Sept. 9, 1927 in Point aux Gaul, Nfld., Carrie was the daughter of Ronald and Olive Rose Hillier. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in North Sydney. The joy of her life was her family, putting her children before everything. She was also an active dart player with the North Sydney Senior Citizens & Pensioners Club. Carrie also loved dogs, walking, bowling, and travel.
She is survived by her children, George, New Waterford; Beatrice Billard, North Sydney; Calvin, North Sydney; Sandra, Sydney Mines; Wayne, Sydney Mines and James (Ann), Rosemere Que.; by her grandchildren, Christopher (Tanya), North Sydney; Sheldon, Ottawa: Joshua and Simon, Rosemere, Que.; Jolene, Sydney Mines and great-grandchildren, Emily and Riley, North Sydney. She is also survived by her sisters, Nora Falconer, North Sydney and Beatrice Harrison, Ontario and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Russell Gillard; brothers, Hubert, Gordon and Albert Hillier and her sisters, Marion, Emmie, Ruth, and Meta Hillier and by her son-in law, David Billard.
Her final two years were spent at the Northside Community Guest Home and the family would like to express their appreciation for the excellent care, support and concern shown by all the staff of Teresa Terrace at that facility.
Visitation for Caroline took place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held Monday 3 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Glen Kent officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations in Carrie’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society, Northside Guest Home, or the charity of your choice.
