Edwin Henry Sollom
January 4, 1923 – October 18, 2014
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Edwin Henry Sollom on October 18, 2014 at his home in Birch Hills, SK at the age of 91 years. Edwin was predeceased by his parents: Theodore & Anna (Rust) Sollom. Edwin is survived by his sister: Irene (Peter) Edwards; his nieces and nephews: Trudy (Robert) Migneault of Rosthern, SK, Robert Edwards of Regina, SK, Tammy (Bill) Hryciuk of Prince Albert, SK, Raymond (Leslie Loroff) Edwards of Saskatoon, SK, and James (Celynne) Edwards of Calgary, AB; his 4 great-nephews and 5 great-nieces, his 2 great-great-nephews and his 2 great-great-nieces. Edwin was born in Birch Hills, SK on January 4, 1923. He started school in Birch Hills, then moved to Superior School, near Hagen, SK. He finished grades 9-11 by correspondence and finished at the Northern Light High School with his grade 12 certificate. In later years, his sister and mother moved back to the farm where he took over the running of the farm, until he moved to Birch Hills in 2002. He was often found tinkering with his equipment and taking care of stray dogs who often found a new home on the farm. Although he never married and didn’t travel far from home he did like to read and keep up on current affairs and the world at large. The family has many fond memories of Edwin, as do relatives and friends. He was a frequent visitor at the Birch View Nursing Home, visiting with people that didn’t always have someone to visit them. Our last memory of time spent with Edwin was on the 11th of this month when the family all gathered to celebrate thanksgiving and Peter’s 90th birthday. A service celebrating Edwin’s life will be held at Saron Lutheran Church, Hagen, SK on Friday, October 24, 2014 – 2:00 pm with Pastor Harold Rust officiating. In lieu of other tributes donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium.
