PURDY, Herbert Guy - age 84, born May 29, 1930 in Rockville, NS. It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Herbert Purdy who passed away peacefully on October 23, 2014 in Yarmouth Hospital. He was the son of the late Bernard and Harriet (Quinlan). Herbert married his childhood sweetheart, Margie Bell Vickery in August 1950. Together they raised four children Harlyn (Helene), Garnet (Faith), Zydric (Bev), Carrie (Jim). He had a great love for his 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Herbert was a Fisherman all his life. During his retirement years he enjoyed working in his shed making many wooden crafts which are to this day enjoyed by many. He was a member of the Herring Pond Tribe, Cape Cod, Mass. He was a quiet man who showed his loving side to all as he looked after his wife during her long illness. Herbert was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Margie (Vickery). He was also predeceased by brothers, William, Frank, Bernard, Keith, Arthur, Bruce, Dow, Eugene, Richard and sister Lydia. The family would like to thank the EHS, nurses of 3 East and especially Dr. Tom Muise for the exceptional care and kindness they showed dad during his last days. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 7 - 9 pm in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service was held Monday, October 27, 2014 at 2 p.m. from Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel, Eugene "Bud" Hurlbert officiated. Interment followed in Chebogue "Town Point" Cemetery.
