COHEN, H. REUBEN, C.C., O.N.B., LL.B., LL.D., Q.C. - It is with profound sadness that the family of H. Reuben Cohen announce his passing on Friday, October 24, 2014 in his 93rd year. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Molly and David Cohen. Reuben attended Moncton High School, Dalhousie University and after completing his law degree, began his career as a lawyer in Moncton. To name a few of his many accomplishments, he was awarded the Companion of the Order of Canada, the Order of New Brunswick, the Order of Moncton, the Fellowship of Honor with the YMCA, Prix Lescarbot Award, Paul Harris Fellow Award, District Governor of Rotary, Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals, was a past Chancellor of Dalhousie University and a founding member of The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation.
He was a scholar and Renaissance man, as well as a leading financier and led many successful companies during his career. He leaves to mourn his wife, Astrid Lundrigan Cohen; daughters, Debra Moffatt (Peter) and Natalie Smith, both of Halifax, NS; grandchildren, Louis, David, Sam, Schuyler and Samantha; the children of Astrid - Arthur, Catherine and Leslie; and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Louise and several brothers, including Nathan Cohen of Moncton.
Funeral Service will be held at the Tiferes Israel Synagogue on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 2:30 pm. The burial will follow the service at Congregation Tiferes Israel Cemetery in Dieppe. Arrangements have been entrusted to Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995). Expressions of sympathy and memorial donations in H.
