John Vincent Murphy

Passed on: October 25th, 2014

September 27, 1946 - October 25, 2014
Husband, father, step-father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend. He loved and treasured each without measure. John truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. He was a man of few words with a gentle, quiet demeanour; but his sincerity, humility and kind heart were always felt by those in his presence. Family, above all, was his life; and so, it is with heavy hearts, that we, his family, announce his passing on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at St. Patrick's Mercy Home, surrounded by those he loved most. John's health challenges were many and complex; yet, he faced each day with such grace and dignity that he inspired each of us and taught everyone around him to truly live their best every day. "One Day at a Time" was our motto. John was predeceased by his father Edward, his mother Mildred (Bradley), his first wife Connie (mother of his children), his brother-in-law Randy Reynar and special aunt, Margaret Schillemore. He has left to mourn his loving and devoted wife Zita (Walsh Rollings); his children Andrea Stone (Dwayne), Jason (Kerry), Lisa Carroll (Pat), Jonathan (Carolyn Fagner); his step children, Kim Short (Robin), Cheri Carroll (Sean), Gregg Rollings (Wendy); his precious grandchildren Michael and Ben Stone, Anna Pike and Mac Murphy, Will and Sam Carroll, Ian Carroll, Cameron Short , Haley Rollings, all of whom he adored; brothers, Edward (Linda), Brian (Ellen); sisters Pat Reynar and Peggy Murphy; mother-in-law, Elizabeth (Betty) Walsh; brother and sister-in-laws Doreen Noseworthy (Gerry), John Walsh (Rose), Marian Walsh (Barb Lochead), Brenda Clark (Wayne), Mary Elizabeth Furlong (Gerry Power), Margaret Locke (Hubert), Bob Noseworthy (Susan), Marilyn Lewis, Marie Porter; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. We have been blessed by the prayers, love and support of not only family, but dear special friends near and far, and we are grateful for each one of you, especially Sister M. Vincent M.C., who brought to John on her home visit, the priceless gift of His Peace. We would like to acknowledge the kindness, compassion and care given to John by each physician, nurse, LPN, caregiver and paramedic as you touched his life. We were blessed by each of you. We would especially like to thank the Staff of 3N/S at St. Patrick's Mercy Home and Father John Maddigan. You are all simply the best! Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave, St. John's. Visitation will take place on Monday, and Tuesday, October 27th and 28th from 1-4 p.m. and 7 -9 p.m. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at Corpus Christi Church on Wednesday, October 29th at 9:30am, with interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
