Edna E. Sobey, 96 years of age of Amherst, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in Tidnish she was a daughter of the late James & Norma (Chapman) Douglas.She was an employee of the Canada & Car Foundry Co. Ltd during WWII, following the war she worked for Goodwins Super Market, Nelsons Dry Cleaners and the Interprovincial School for the Education of the Deaf. Edna loved to knit, she did a lot of leather work, making purses and wallets. Edna enjoyed gardening and sitting on the deck playing crib with Barb and friends and enjoying a glass of wine.
She is survived by her daughters, Marion Ney (Jerry) of ON, Sandra Sewell (Dean) of USA, Grace Chapman (Doug) of Hastings, NS, Lana Borg (George) of ON; son, Arnold Kirby of Tidnish, NS; step daughter, Barbara Plomp (Hans) of Amherst, NS; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, John Wells, her second husband, Ivan Kirby, and her third husband, Clair Sobey in 1993; a son, Donald; two brothers, John & James Douglas, step son Frank MacDonald.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst NS. No visitation by request. A Graveside service will be held at the Riverside Cemetery, Tidnish Bridge on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 11 am
