James Hall

Passed on: October 20th, 2014

Hall: James (Jim) Warrener Hall, September 21, 1928-October 20, 2014. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our brother, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend. Jim was born on the farm in St. Boswells, Saskatchewan to William (Bill) and Lydia Hall, the youngest son of 11 children. He is survived by his only sister Joan (Louie) Schuetz of Armstrong, B.C. sister-in-law Faith Hall, many nieces and nephews and cousins and extended families. He is predeceased by his brothers Morley, Cyril, Howard, and Ralph, and sisters Orma Baum, Helen O'Rourke, Coy Copeley, Janet Ablitt, and Eva Martins. Jim attended schools in St. Boswells, Neidpath, and Bateman. He was a long time resident of St. Boswells and Bateman Communities, honouring and appreciating his maternal Grandfather's legacy as Postmaster of Bateman. He became the trusted guardian of the land that his parents homesteaded and continued to farm this land until 2000. Jim was always devoted and immensely proud of his home province of Saskatchewan, although he spent a great deal of time with family in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia as his siblings moved across Canada. He was continually seeking knowledge, a voracious reader, and always showing interest and concern in current affairs. He accumulated such wealth of knowledge that he became like a walking encyclopedia and we all loved to use him as our resource because that would seldom make us wrong. He subtly encouraged the youth of our family to succeed. Jim was an avid follower of sports and enjoyed those TV channels and could answer any sport trivia challenge you could throw at him. He had a great passion for crossword puzzles, completing them in ink (although he would probably say it was easier to see than pencil .... we know different). He was always eager to lend a hand or be the caretaker. The love of growing things from the earth compelled him to seed, weed, mow, and trim at any opportunity. Jim truly appreciated the harvested crops and those that canned or froze the treasures. He was a cancer survivor and showed such valiant courage in his will to live. He was a humble, honest, and private man with a solitary soul but he found comfort in relating to his many and varied family members touching each of their hearts by sincerely caring about what they knew and what they aspired to. He will be so missed by those who knew and loved him. He was a positive force in our family. A celebration of Jim's life was held on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 1:00 pm. With his family gathering at the farm house, and then proceeding to St. Boswells Cemetery for interment and then to the Bateman Hall for a Memorial service. In Jim's memory, memorial donation may be made to the Bateman Lion's Club, Canadian Cancer Society, Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Charity of the Donor's Choice. Warren's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
