RASMUSSEN, ROBERT “BOB” H. - Robert “Bob” Hillman Rasmussen, beloved husband of the late Jessie M. (Kerr) Rasmussen, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born in Salmonhurst, NB on June 5, 1934, the only son of the late Hillman and Louise (Paulsen) Rasmussen. Robert was a very hard working man right from his younger days from growing up on the farm in New Denmark to his retirement from the Vanier Co-Op. He was a faithful member of Smythe Street Cathedral where he served proudly as an usher for many years. He was kind and friendly with everyone he met. He had the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, anytime- regardless of their age. One of Dad’s passions was cars. He knew everything there was to know about them and delighted in chatting with anyone about them. Surviving are his two devoted daughters, Karen (Gary) Rasmussen-Lohnes and Karla (Dave) Palmer both of Fredericton; a very special chosen daughter, Shelley Jones of New Glasgow, NS. Bob was very proud of his two grandsons who lovingly called him “Papa Robert”, Jacob (Holli) Wilson and Noah (Brooke) Wilson both of Fredericton also two precious great-grandsons, Daemon and Ryder. Bob is also survived by his dear sister, Charlotte Hansen of New Denmark; mother-in-law Marie Kerr of Fredericton and brothers-in-law, Rev. Gerald (Ida) Kerr of Perth, Ontario and Basil (Helen) Kerr of Grand Bay, NB. His nieces and nephews always held a special place in his heart Besides his parents and wife Jessie (2012), he was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Earl Hansen.
The family will receive condolences at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM. A service celebrating the life of Bob Rasmussen will be held Friday, October 31 at 2:00 PM from Smythe Street Cathedral with Rev. Verner Drost officiating assisted by Rev. Wayne Flowers. Interment will be held in the Sunny Bank Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Bridges of Canada or Village of Hope Canada.
