Mary Ell

ELL, SISTER MARY ANNE MAGDALENA (SISTER HENRIETTA MARIA) - Mary Ell was born in Holdfast, Saskatchewan the daughter of the late Sabastian Ell and Maria (Reinboldt) Ell. Mary entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on March 23, 1928. Sister received her teacher’s license in 1931 and began her teaching career at St. John’s Boys’ Home and School in Burnaby, British Columbia. She received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta. Sister Mary moved to Edmonton, Alberta in 1932 and taught at St. Alphonsus School for thirty years. During her teaching career she also taught at Infant of Prague in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, St. Francis of Assissi, Vancouver, BC, St. Joseph’s, Winnipeg, MB, & Holy Ghost School, Winnipeg, MB, where she was Principal from 1976 to 1983. After more than fifty years of teaching, Sister Mary retired in 1983 and moved to Edmonton, Alberta where she continued her ministry in St. Alphonsus Parish and tutoring immigrants. Sister Ell moved to Saint John, New Brunswick in 2004 and remained very actively involved in various ministries. She currently resided at Ruth Ross Residence in Saint John, NB. She is survived by her sister Mrs. Bernadette (John) Ehman – Holdfast, Saskatchewan and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Mr. Ignatz Ell, Mr. Sebastian Ell, Mr. John Ell, Mr. Ralph Ell, Mr. Clem Ell and her sister Miss Catherine Ell.
Resting at Ruth Ross Residence with visiting on Sunday November 2, 2014 from 2 and 4pm and 7 and 9pm, with a Prayer Vigil at 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Ruth Ross Residence Carmel Chapel on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 10:00am. Internment will take place in the Sisters of Charity plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
