Peacefully at the Ottawa Hospital (Civic Campus), with family by his side, on Wednesday, October 29, 2014. Al was born November 28, 1922, to Charles and Adele (Cullen) MacDonald in Charlottetown, PE. He served in WWII as a radio operator air gunner with the Royal Air Force Coastal Command and later as part of the peacetime Royal Canadian Air Force from 1946-1967, duties including a one-year peacekeeping tour with the United Nations in El Arish, Egypt. He later joined the Royal Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) until his retirement in 1986. Throughout this life Al was an avid and active ham radio operator, with contacts and friends around the globe. Predeceased by his loving wife (Carmen) of 68 years on September 9, 2014. Dear brother of Shirley MacDonald, June Donovan, Bernard, and deceased brother, Joseph. He will be dearly missed by his five children, Janis Lukey (Bill), Chris (Yadav Pudasaini), Phil (Nancy Henderson), all of Ottawa; Jo Diane Moxness (Ron) of Kensington, PE, and Brenda Caldwell (Stephen) of Derry, New Hampshire. Cherished grandfather of Terry (Stephanie), Jay (Tanya), Michael, Elli (Mike), Cory (Lauren), Jonathan (Sarah), and Tara. Proud great-grandfather of Ana Moxness. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Sincere thanks to his caregiver Christine March, and to The Ravine’s Retirement Home. Friends are invited to visit Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Ave. (east of Vanier Parkway) Ottawa, on Friday, Nov. 7, after 9:30 a.m. A Memorial Service will be held in the Sacred Space of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre at 10:30 a.m. followed by interment with Military Honours at the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces and reception in honour of Al.
