Phillip Fletcher

FLETCHER, PHILLIP - It is with sadness that the family of Phillip Herbert Fletcher announces his death on November 2, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He was born to the late Thomas and Eunice (Phillips) Fletcher on April 4, 1927 in Rusagonis, New Brunswick. Phil could always be seen with a smile and heard with a laugh. He was a hard worker and dedicated man, evident in his 23 years serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force and 15 years working at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. His hard work and dedication also showed in his volunteer work with Meals on Wheels and at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. A lover of nature, he could often be found on the river bank in the early spring picking fiddleheads. In the winter months Phil would be watching the Toronto Maple Leafs, hoping for one more win. His love of sports and nature was second only to his love of family. Phil is survived by his partner, Valerie Hird; sons, Edwin (Barbara) and Kevin; brother, Patrick (Barbara); sisters, Marie and Avis; best friend, Bill Hodgson (Karen) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Jane; his parents; sister, Minnie; brothers, Leo and Alton; brothers-in-law, Alex Dunbar and Bud Brown and sister-in-law, Florence.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #93, will hold a tribute service Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Oromocto Baptist Church on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place in the Rusagonis Baptist Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Perry Hanley will be officiating. For those who wish, donations in memory of Phil can be made to the Oromocto SPCA or to a charity of the donor's choice.
