It is with deep sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of Hector MacNeil, 67, of New Waterford on Nov. 1, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Low Point, he was a son of the late John O. and Mary (Sheppard) MacNeil.
Hector was a member of St. Joseph Church, New Victoria, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. He was a coal miner with Devco for 39 years until his retirement in 2000. Hector was an avid hockey and baseball fan; his favourite teams being the Maple Leafs and Blue Jays. His greatest pastime was being with his family, especially his two grandsons.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Patsy (Gouthro); daughter Colleen, at home; son Blair (Julie) MacNeil, Scotchtown; brother Steve (Ann), Sarnia, Ont.; two grandchildren, Jake MacNeil and Albert Blair Chiasson; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Hector was predeceased by sisters, Peggy Campbell and Theresa MacNeil, son-in-law Gerry Chiasson, sister-in-law Corrine Forsyth.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, New Victoria.
