MERRITHEW, HELEN IRENE - The passing of Helen Irene Merrithew of Fredericton, formerly of Douglas, NB, wife of the late Earl Merrithew occurred on Monday, November 3, 2014 at York Care Centre. Born on May 31, 1935 in Fredericton, NB, she was the daughter of the late William and Ellen (Gordon) Norquay. She was a member of the Douglas Baptist Church. In her early years, she was a telephone operator. Helen and her husband Earl owned and operated the family farm and Merrithews U-Pick; she also had a passion for Bingo. Helen is survived by her daughters, Joyce Allen (Fred) of Nackawic, NB and Charlotte Evans of Fredericton, NB; sons, Neil Jewett (Elaine) of Douglas, NB, Lester Jewett (Donna) of Douglas, NB and Hazen Jewett of Fredericton, NB; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; sisters, Marion Allen and Bernice Ripley (Willie); brother, John Norquay (Nancy); several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by her sons, Earl Jr. “Toag” and Leon Merrithew.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, November 6, 2014 from 4 to 8 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Douglas Baptist Church on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 11 am with Rev. Peter Moore officiating and Rev. Peter Thomas assisting. Interment will take place at Dayton Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the IWK Children’s Hospital or the charity of the donor’s choice.
