SMITHFIELD – Nova Elizabeth Dearborn Smith, 85 of the Valley View Villa, Riverton and formerly of Smithfield, passed away on November 4, 2014 with her family by her side.
She was born to the late Marion Clark (Emery) and Ferry Gordon Cameron, May 15, 1929 in Cameron Settlement, Guysborough Co.
She married the late Roy Smith in 1949 and they lived together in Smithfield for 19 years and had six children. She later married Robert Smith and they lived in Smithfield until his passing in 1985.
Nova moved to Lower Sackville with her daughter, Teresa, in 2005 until 2011, with the passing of her daughter, she moved to Valley View Villa. She loved the staff and would often say to her family, “Well don’t worry, the girls will be here if I need anything”.
Her days were always brightened with family and friends visits.
Special thanks to her extended family at Valley View Villa.
Nova loved to knit, crochet, cross stitch and quilt. She made many crafts over the years for her family and friends. She loved to read fiction, autobiographies, biographies and keep up to date on the latest news and political happenings. She was a great outdoors woman and enjoyed the comraderie of like minded individuals. She had a connection with nature and wildlife. She liked to listen to music and play cards. Her pets were always part of the family.
She is survived by her son Emery (Emma) Smith, Smithfield; daughters: Jo-Ann (late Ellis) MacGrath, Aspen; Mary Jane (Lance) Kenny, Thorburn; Bonnie (Graham) Fraser, MacPherson’s Mills; 13 grandchildren: Joel, Arnold, Rhona, Ryan, Colin, Adrinnea, John, Sheena, Cyndi, Whitney, Chelsey, Nicholas and Jacob; 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband Roy, her second husband Robert, a son Gordon, a daughter Teresa, a son-in-law Ellis MacGrath; six brothers: Donald, Emery, Duncan, John, Jamie and Robert; four sisters: Gertrude Devanie, Mary Sutherland, Jean Mines and Isabel Chestnut.
The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. on Friday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, 256 King Street, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Derek Elsworth officiating. Burial will be in the Smithfield Cemetery.
Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to the Smithfield Cemetery or to a charity of your choice .
