McCANN, Richard Stuart - Age 72 of Three Mile Plains, Hants Co., passed away peacefully, Tuesday, November 4, 2014 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on November 12, 1941 in Belmont, he was a son of the late Stuart and Gladys (Connors) McCann. As a youngster, when Richard’s mother thought he was studying he was usually found with a comic book in between his text book pages. He was a gentleman who always had time to stop and chat and greeted people with a big infectious smile. Richard worked at GEM Construction in Halifax, before retiring in 1995. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener and was very proud of the sunflowers he grew. He loved music and was found most Tuesday nights playing music for the seniors and Wednesday nights at the jam session. He also loved playing cards, but he always had to win. He leaves behind his companion, Audrey Rourke; children; Elizabeth Smith, Christopher McCann and Jennifer Gurschick; grandchildren, Joshua, Kathlyn and Christopher Smith and Morgen Aulenbach; three great-grandchildren; sister, Myrna (Merton) Burrows; brother, Wade (Marjorie) McCann; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Beverley (Swinamer) McCann and parents-in-law, Cecil and Mary Swinamer. Arrangements were entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317). A time of remembrance was held at the family home from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, instruments were welcomed. A funeral service celebrating Richard’s life took place in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, 2 p.m. Sunday, November 9, Rev. Bill Gibson officiated. A reception immediately followed in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. A private family interment took place in Centre Falmouth Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Richard may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, 5657 Spring Garden Rd., Box 245, Halifax, NS B3J 3R4.
