ALLAIN, FATHER ROBERT - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Father Robert Allain, 62, on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre following a brief illness. Born on May 30, 1952 in Cocagne, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Aline (Léger) Allain. Father Robert was a teacher at École Clément-Cormier in Bouctouche and at the Cocagne school from 1972 to 1979 before studying at the Saint-Paul Seminary in Ottawa from 1979 to 1984, and was ordained priest on June 9, 1984. He was director of the Office of Faith Education and pastor of St. Jude’s parish in Salisbury from 1984 to 1987; pastor in Pointe-Sapin from 1987 to 1989; pastor in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (Moncton) parish from 1989 to 1997; studied in canon law from 1997 to 1999; pastor in Cap-Pelé and Shemogue parishes from 1999 to 2000; moderator of the pastoral unit Saint-Esprit (Cap-Pelé, Shemogue, Barachois and Haute-Aboujagane) from2000 to 2006; moderator of the pastoral unit Sainte-Trinité (Saint-Charles, Richibucto and Richibouctou-Village) from 2006 to 2010; moderator of the pastoral units Jean XXIII (Bouctouche and Sainte-Anne) and Notre-Dame-des-Champs (Sainte-Marie, Saint-Paul, Adamsville and Saint-Norbert) from 2010 to 2014. In the Moncton Archdiocese, Father Robert, known for his organisational skills, was always a member of several comities. He was a member of the College of Consultors and the Senate of Priests for many years. He also held many positions: judicial vicar from 1999 to 2014, chancellor from 2005 to 2014 and the Moncton Archdiocese general vicar from 2012 to 2014. He is survived by one sister, Yvonne of Cocagne; six brothers: Henry (Géraldine Goguen) of Grande-Digue, Arthur (Connie), Léo (Dorice), Emery (Opeline), Léonard (Géraldine), all of Cocagne, and Alyre (Lilliane) of Charlottetown, PE; 13 nieces and nephews: Maria, Roger, Gilles, Gloria, Jean, Andréa, Roxane, Martin, Gabrielle, Anise, Benoit, Chantal and Christine; his step-father, Alyre Hébert of Irishtown and his children, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two infant brothers, Robert and Joseph, as well as two sisters-in-law: Denise and Ernestine.
The family will receive condolences at St-Jean-Baptiste Roman Catholic Church, 19, boulevard Irving, Bouctouche Thursday, November 13 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and at the Ste-Thérèse d’Avila Roman Catholic Church, 2648 Acadie Road, Cap-Pelé, Friday, November 14 from 2 to 4 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Ste-Thérèse d’Avila Roman Cathlic Church, 2648 Acadie Road, Cap-Pelé, on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 4 pm. Interment will be in Ste-Thérèse d’Avila cemetery, Cap-Pelé. In memory of Father Allain, a contribution to the Haïti Fondation n.d.s.c., the Manoir Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Bouctouche, the Centre d’habileté du Sud-Est de Cap-Pelé or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
