It is with great sadness that the family announces Emma’s peaceful passing at the Palliative Care Unit of the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Wednesday, November 12 at 90 years of age. Left with many fond and loving memories are her 3 children: Harold (Margaret), Corner Brook, Marie (Leslie) Bennett, Irishtown & Sharon (Glen) Gilbert, Oakville, ON; her 9 grandchildren: Jacqueline (Sean) Butt, Harold Welshman, Jr., Katrina Ricketts (Gerry White), Darren Bennett (Michelle Johnson), Harold (Lorraine) Bennett, Wendy (Mike) Barriault, Andy Bennett (Judy Cox), Stephen Gilbert & Joanne Gilbert (Matthew Wiens); her 11 great-grandchildren: Tara (Chris) Penney, Shane Welshman, Dustin Welshman, Lesley Ricketts (Joe Taylor), Adrian Ricketts (Juliah Wight), Marie Bennett, Brianna Bennett, Michael Barriault, Andrew Barriault & Ryan Bourgeois and Shannon (Brian) Ferdinand; her 8 great-great grandchildren: Hunter, Lauren & Maya Butt, Jordan & Jacey Taylor, & Gunner Bourgeois and Greer and Merek Ferdinand. Also left to mourn are her 7 step-children: Diane (Douglas) Sollows, Roslen (Gerard) Kenny, Keith Simms, Dale (Larry) Johnson, Guy (Tracy) Simms, Craig (Jackie) Simms, Tina (Brian) Cisecky, and their extended families, along with brothers Calvin, Grant (Elizabeth) and William, and sisters Ula Walsh (David) and Martha Payne (Stewart), as well as sister-in-law Meta Hann & brother-in-law Leo Quilty, and a large number of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Emma was predeceased by her 1st husband, William Welshman (1989), 2nd husband, Lewis Simms (1997), parents William & Ella Belinda Hann, brothers Charles, Wilburn, Winston & Leslie, sisters Amelia Laing & Lillian Quilty & granddaughter Dianne Bennett. Sincere gratitude is extended to the staff and residents of Mountainview Estates, Premier Drive, of which Emma was a resident for the past few years; and a special thank you is extended to Dr. Margaret Culletin, Emma’s long-time family Physician & the doctors and nurses at W.M.R.H. whose compassion and care over the past couple months made her more comfortable and her family more at ease when needed most. Family will be receiving friends at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, and again on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place at the Salvation Army Temple, O’Connell Drive, on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 2:00 p.m. with a private family burial to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. Flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made in Emma’s memory to the Salvation Army Temple or a charity of one’s choice. The family guest book may be signed or a memorial donation may be made through our website www.fillatre.ca.
